“Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.” (John 2:23-25) The way John describes Jesus is both condemning and comforting. Jesus knows what is in each person’s heart. So when we have a joyous day, He celebrates with us. When our hearts are sad or anxious, He listens. When we are angry or feeling short tempered, He and the Spirit are cautioning us, watch your tongue; it can set your whole life on fire. (James 3:6)

The Lord knows our human nature and that we often can’t help ourselves. We sometimes choose to walk in darkness instead of stepping into His marvelous light. He can’t trust us and we can’t even trust ourselves. We really need somebody to save us from ourselves. And that’s exactly what God planned to do from the beginning of time. Our human nature condemns us; His sacrifice converts us; our confession confirms us, and His great love comforts us. Blessed beyond measure, Tracy
