Readings: Daniel 3
Prepared for Fire
Daniel’s recording of the fiery furnace can be terrifying, yet amazing. Whenever I read it, I remember Nolan, who began fighting cancer before he was a year old. A couple years later his grandma saw him running around the house on his prosthetic leg, his prayer shawl around his back like a cape. “What do you want to do, Super Nolan?” she asked. “Walk through fire and not get hurt!” he cried out. That brave little boy walked through fire with Jesus for several years until the Savior said, “Well done, brave little warrior. Let’s go home.” Nolan was as faithful and brave as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego when they said, “We do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter…we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Whether or not God saved them from the fire, they were His. Some of you have been there. Some of you are feeling the heat right now. Likewise, at some point, we might all have to walk through fire. Are we prepared to defend and love our Lord with death-defying obedience? It’s uncomfortable to think about. Once committed though, the Lord changes our lives with His peace and courage. We may need to recommit every day, but that’s ok, because our faith grows as we prepare for fire. May you know, friends, that Jesus walks with you through everything. Growing in faith with you, Tracy
