Readings: Daniel 5, Luke 12:13-21
A Word
I have a new Scrabble word for you: pyx. So many points! It is the little box that holds the communion wafers. In the reading from Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar’s son gets a terrifying message with four words. And he didn’t get a chance to play Scrabble or any other games – his judgement was swift. He did not acknowledge God Almighty, even though his father had taught him the lessons he learned the hard way. Daniel tells King Belshazzar, “But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways.” Additionally he says, “You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.” Yikes! That’s something you never want to hear the Lord say! We have the mind-blowing promises of Christ that declare us worthy when we are on the scale. You’ve heard it said that words can bring life or death. We can always turn to the Word for the message that gives us hope, love and life. Look for the pyx next Sunday and praise the Word of Life for His amazing gift. Ever learning, like you, Tracy
