I remember telling our daughters when they were very young that Jesus was with them all the time, even though they couldn’t see Him. Later, we were reading a book, The Borrowers, about tiny people that lived unseen within the walls of people’s homes. Our little one decided to leave food out behind the bookcase, so the tiny family could have dinner. She said, “Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there.” What a beautiful, imaginative and warm world those girls created in our home. Thankfully, Jesus was not in the exact same category as borrowers and fairies, and we could see the concept of belief and faith growing in their minds and catching up to their hearts.Â
This Ash Wednesday, we are encouraged to reflect and repent, to bring our concept of belief and faith into God’s light. We know on a deeper level than a child that just because we can’t see Jesus doesn’t mean He isn’t here with us. It’s always good to invite God to shine His light into our hearts and show us what we may not see, and encourage the good He does see. Perhaps He will ask us to shape our world into something warm, imaginative and beautiful, something powered by grace and fueled by love. Welcome to Lent. “But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.” (John 3:21) Walk in His light and grow in faith, friends. ~Tracy
