Last fall in Northern California, I saw Canadian geese flying south. I wondered, could they be going to Arizona for the winter? When I’m far away, I like to connect things to home. I must have learned that from the Lord. Ephesians 2 says, “He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near. Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us.” The Lord desires closeness with all of us, sharing His peace and love. God not only wants to connect us to His home (through Christ and the Holy Spirit), He wants to connect us to each other. Nobody is far away any more. Last week’s devotion runs into this one – we are all part of God’s family.
Paul also says in Ephesians 2, “Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.” Jesus is our spiritual sanctuary and our heart’s home. His house is our house, along with all believers everywhere for all time. That’s a big house! So why do some people act like it’s a tiny house? Why do some try to guard the doors? Those of us that encourage unity, who practice peace, who live in joy for all Christ has done for us, have an opportunity. We can share the Good News that all of us can come to the Father through Christ. Together we are His house. Together we care, even when we disagree. May God’s peace and unity rule in our hearts and in our nation. ~Tracy
