“What’s your superpower?” is a fun sort of question these days. We used to say our mothers had eyes in the back of their heads, because they could “see” what we were doing, even from another room. I’m intrigued by stories of super-human strength that saves the day…a teenager who carries a woman out of a burning home or a girl who fights off a shark. The Olympics and Paralympic Games are coming this summer and we will see incredible strength and stamina from the world’s best athletes. Some people train to have superpowers. Others are born with an incredible gift. Sometimes, the superpower is not our own, and comes just when we need it most. Or, at the precise moment God wants it displayed.
We celebrate Pentecost this Sunday, and hear the stories of Jesus’ believers speaking languages they didn’t know, so those around them would hear the Word of God in their own language. The superpower appears to be just for that God-ordained circumstance. I’ve felt the Holy Spirit’s power in an overwhelming situation when I’ve needed it most. Haven’t you? We can’t train for it, and we aren’t born with it. But we are born again with it. Let’s be sure and give God the glory when the power of His Spirit within us makes us better than we are. Thank You, Lord, for Your power that saves the day. ~Tracy
