You have most likely read a passage of Scripture or listened to Christian song lyrics, and thought, I got it. Once in a while, you read or hear the same words, and something is different. Deeper. Pointedly truth-filled. Aimed at your heart from God’s. And you think, Oh, I get it now. I heard “Good Good Father” sung by Chris Tomlin today. He sings, “You’re a good, good Father. It’s who You are… And I’m loved by You. It’s who I am…” It struck me afresh that no matter what we do or don’t do, wherever we work or play, whatever our physical limitations, we are loved by God and His love defines who we are. Loved is not how I am; it’s who I am: beloved of Father God. I got it decades ago, but today my heart cried, Oh, I get it now in a different way.
I am thinking of my terrific dad, husband, brother, uncles, sons-in-law and all the wonderful fathers who changed my life. Our family’s love also helps shape us into who we are. We are never too young or too old to be molded by love. What a blessing when we have loving fathers on earth and the Good Father in Heaven that loves us more than humanly possible. If we sometimes feel unworthy, unlovable or incapable, hear the Word of our Good Father: “I am writing to all of you… who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.” (Romans 1:7) We are loved, that’s who we are. We are called to be His own and we don’t have to be anything else. Just be loved. And be Love. Grace, Tracy
