Are you born again? When I was just out of college and working for an evangelist, being born again was a hot topic. Lutherans don’t say it much any more. But we should be thinking about it! Jesus reminds us we are born again, every day. Whether we live and work at home or away, we can be easily distracted into believing we are overcoming the world on our own. We are not. It’s Jesus that helps us change a habit, choose wisely, weather health storms, navigate grief, hope for the future. Jesus told Nicodemus, “Unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” Nicodemus could not understand. So, Jesus continues, “Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.” With our faith in Jesus as our Savior, we can see the Kingdom of God in Him; we can ask to serve in His Kingdom. We have the glorious promise of being born again as God’s new creation through faith and obedience to Christ. Max Lucado words it beautifully; Jesus “transformed the tomb into a womb out of which life was born. Your life.” With eternal thanks to our beautiful triune God, Tracy
