Wise King Solomon said, “So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.” God gives us such good gifts. What makes you happy? If you are passionate about reading, you might get lost in a good book. You may work in your garden and lose track of time. You may find great joy in cooking, or hiking, or knitting, golfing, Bible study, or hanging out with your kids.

While we were babysitting, I was reminded that immersing myself in a pure passion is powerfully fulfilling. For hours on end, our only goal was making the baby happy. No distractions, no mind-wandering to a to-do list, just making every moment count toward someone else’s joy. What a delightful way to spend a day. Granted, a smiling baby is quite motivating and captivating. Yet, giving undistracted time to something or someone we love is beyond motivating – it’s full circle joy. Try it. Do something that you love, without distraction, and see if you feel energized and deeply happy. We may be exhausted by crawling after a baby for eight hours, but children are worth every ounce of energy we can muster. Afterwards, there’s a sweet collapse into a soft chair, and a whisper, “Thank You, Lord, for the gift of this gloriously happy day! There is nothing better.” ~Tracy
